Pros

public company, big goals and big risks
open management
great feedback
tons of growth opportunities
great compensation package
outstanding company culture
nice balance of life and work

Cons

public company so at the end of the day you are just a number
Quartly fire drills and high stress to please shareholders

Advice to Management

Because of the just a number, no hard feeling policys, B&D lost an unacceptable number of quality people and it has cost them dearly. Probably will never have the market share that was lost.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Immediate management is great. The benefits are good. SBD is good for gaining experience, and building your resume.

    Cons

Upper management has taken a habit of using furloughs, layoffs and cuts in fringe benefits in order to make the numbers look good.
There was a forced retirement for persons above a certain age, who had years of experience with the company.
Turnover is high throughout the company, and this is going to cause a reduction in product quality.
You can not rely on making what SBD says they will pay you. They have had furloughs, unpaid vacation, and tuition reimbursement freezes over the past few years.

    Advice to Management

Come to the realization that in order to have a great company, you need to provide your employees with security, not reduction in benefits and furloughs.
Also realize that half of your motors group left in less than one month. What kind of power tool company does not take care of the people who have and continue to create well engineered products? This company has been wounded through forced retirements, layoffs and voluntary resignations.
Take a walk through the halls and look at what people put on the bulletin boards.
Realize that you have pushed morale to an all time low.
Was the free lunch at the tent sale that expensive? Why get rid of these little things.

A lot of meetings take place and at times can feel pointless. A lot of people competing to do the same thing.

    Better assessment process
