Advice to Management

Create more long term potential in your high performing management partners who are not relocatable by offering a managing partner incentive.

I worked at Starbucks part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Health benefits, 401k, vacation time. Tuition reimbursement.

    Cons

Shift supervisor is basically an underpaid assistant management position. Must be available for 40 hours but lucky to get 34 hours. Upper management lacks leadership and rules seem to change every 6 months.

    Advice to Management

Be a little bit more open to the baristas and retail employees. Plus training of new employees needs to be improved.

I have been working at Starbucks full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The mission statement is what keeps the company desirable.

    Cons

Too many chiefs and not enough indians. Inequalities in pay and bonus. Partner Relations team has no soul/is a figure head. Managers are external hires who hire externally. The new hires are promoted faster and more often than the long term partners. Too many senior positions posted which eliminates internal growth and advancement opportunities for long term partners. Less coffee and more cream.

    Advice to Management

Job titles need to be updated based on the standard of industry. Using generic job descriptions only cheats the partner pay equity and results in burnout and dissatisfaction. If a long-term partner leaves, ask why and show sincere concern to address the issue. But in a majority of cases, the problem are the dept. managers and partner resource generalists. To Howard, encourage/demand managers to promote from within, there are plenty of partners who have experience and formal education.
