I worked at State Farm full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

nice co-workers, opportunities to help people, fair compensation

    Cons

Micromanagement, ruthlessness, People who are clearly unqualified to lead are sometimes promoted.

    Advice to Management

Treat others as you wish to be treated. Pay attention when one of your managers is unethical, ruthless and amoral. Don't forget the little folks. Some of us prefer the trenches, but a little praise goes a long way. Solicit ideas from people who actually do the work.

I worked at State Farm full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Family culture, strong desire to promote from within, supportive developing people and their careers, opportunities for travel depending on position

    Cons

VERY slow adoption of new technology, must be "mobile" to be promoted (they can choose where you go), business is based on a model that does not seem sustainable.

    Advice to Management

What made you successful to his point will probably not be what would keep you #1. Need to question everything from pay rates, promotion criteria, distribution channels, the real value your agents bring when they are not adding to the bottom line any more.
