I worked at State Street full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Good environment, lots of opportunities

Cons

Executive management too disconnected, lost focus on employees for bottom line profits.

Advice to Management

Seemed like SSBT was headed in the same direction of large wall street companies - sacrificing employees for executive bonuses and bottom line.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at State Street full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Senior Management is very nice. They don't look down to you whether you an intern or VP. Management thinks of you as of professional and doesn't monitor every step of yours. Work life balance is great.

    Cons

There are two cons that I have experienced so far.
    1. Much below average financial industry salary lever.
    2. Somehow hard to move up the latter and move within the company.

    Advice to Management

Please even out salary level and benefits with the rest of financial sector in US

I have been working at State Street full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    * Entrepreneurial culture; very easy to suggest and implement new ideas
    * Lots of groups for networking that cater to a variety of interests
    * Easy to solicit advice from anyone across the org
    * Great for spreadsheet junkies and for anyone who wants to be
    * At its best, culture is collaborative and nurturing

    Cons

    * You'll only have the power to make marginal changes, at best
    * "Work-for-the-weekend" culture; nobody actually cares about finance or the markets
    * Work is intense, detail-oriented, fast-paced but ultimately not very intellectually stimulating and doesn't promote much skills growth; on your worst days, you'll feel like a sweatshop worker
    * Unspoken pressure to not take lunches and the be chained to your desk all day
    * At its worst, the culture is male-dominated, sports-centric, all-balls-and-no-brains and homophobic

    Advice to Management

    * Pay people more than the bare minimum you have to; you'll get better staff and less turnover
    * Foster inclusiveness; actively discourage the promotion of "bros"
    * "Lean" is not a buzzword you can use to hire one employee to do the work of two for half the pay
