I worked at State Street as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

Involved management, great feedback, and a good team atmosphere. The "flex" program is used quite often, allowing employees to work from home once a week, or adjust work hours.

Cons

Pay tends to be less glamorous than typical "banking" salaries. The term "Vice President" is thrown around very loosely.

I have been working at State Street full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Relatively stable for those that choose to be employed long-term. Consistent - rather predictable.

    Cons

Plateau on promotions for top tier employees. Stagnant merit increases. Slow moving due to typical corporate rhetoric. Long term managers have become too comfortable.

    Advice to Management

Fix the culture or continue to lose good employees, it's a bank but it doesn't have to feel like the titanic.

I have been working at State Street full-time

    Pros

-Get to develop on your core skill here (excel, communication, problem solving)
-Get an introduction to the corporate and finance world
-Expand your knowledge of finance. Get to learn the back office activities of finance

    Cons

-Bad management (associates know more than the managers above them). Managers think they are god's gift to the world.
-Only company that I know of that doesn't promote the person that know more in the department.
-Can get stuck working for the same department
-department have no idea what other departments do, even though they work together on a daily bases.
    -Compensation/Salary stinks

    Advice to Management

-Interact with all levels of people within the company. Just because you are a high level manager doesn't give you the right to look down on people.
