I have been working at State of Colorado full-time

    Pros

Work independently with minimal supervision. Supervisors trust you to perform your job and follow your performance without looking over your shoulder all the time. As an employee here I feel empowered to do my job.

    Cons

The lack of telecommuting to work especially since everything is in place for workers to be able to. The usual politics of a work place.

"Nice benefits, but Pay-For-Performance is rarely funded, so practically no raises."

I have been working at State of Colorado full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good health/dental plans and retirement plan. Opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

Haven't had a raise in 5 years, thanks to the Joint Budget Commitee not funding performance-based pay. Low staff moral, because of being overworked and understaffed, with no incentive ($) to do the best job possible.

    Advice to Management

Express appreciation to subordinates frequently and enthusiastically. Treat them to a pizza (or whatever) party, publicly recognize excellent work. Offer to help occasionally. Don't blow off workers' concerns with "do the best you can"-- likely they've DONE the best they could with no success and need REAL help in the form of extra manpower or time to get assignments finished.
