I worked at State of Michigan full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Okay benefits. Decent pay. Regular office hours available.

    Cons

It is hard to advance once you are hired. In my case I started at the bottom even though I have a degree, just to get my foot in the door. I wound up on the phones speaking with up to 200 people per day, most of whom were angry. To advance to the next level would take a while (years). And if your boss doesn't like you, they will keep you from advancing or transferring. My advice: if you have a degree, hold out for a higher level position. In my case, I quit because of the stress level from being on the phones all day.

    Advice to Management

Trim down some of the overpaid and underworked management and hire more workers. Some of the management brings in close to $100,000 a year. They drive Mercedes vehicles and do nothing all day (my boss used to do her nails and refuse to take calls), while the workers are tearing their hair out. You should force management to earn their wage.
