Good way to get career started if you don't have any other options.
Cons
Bullying, harassment, extreme overwork, nepotism, and gaslighting are the norm. I thought my experience was bad until I talked to other employees in other departments. HR complaints go missing in some areas, former female coworkers had been violently assaulted by other coworkers and managers, little to no protection against disgruntled members of the public. Some areas aren't bad, others are terrible, and there's no way to tell which you're going to get unless you already know someone who works there. Pros
Many people and elected leaders across parties truly care about the people of Michigan.
Cons
Constant campaign from governor via email and meetings. Leaders are encouraged to buy food and lunch out of pocket...fine if you have 10 employees, not so easy if you actually have 400 (like me) - even coffee and donuts is nearly $1000!! There are politics between departments the lead to not receiving reasonable items in budget, don't care about the mission to care for the under served.
