Positive Outlook

I have been working at State of Nevada full-time (More than a year)

Pros

If you're an investigations junkie like me, you'll be in heaven!
High morale
VERY supportive co-workers and supervisors
Opportunities to excel, learn new aspects of the job, and hone your skills

Cons

Strict work hours
Budgetary constraints = you don't always have the right tools for the job

Advice to Management

Employees aren't just worker-bees, we possess a wealth of diverse knowledge and--believe it or not--we really do know what we're talking about when we offer suggestions for program improvement, etc.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at State of Nevada full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Stability is the biggest pro. The jobs aren't going away. Some of the benefits are good, 15 days of annual leave and 15 days of sick leave per year is nice. Middle management is better than upper management.

    Cons

Pay is below market. Insurance is getting very expensive and covering less. Morale is low due to these factors. Upper management are political appointees, so the quality varies widely.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees. They are in the trenches and see what works. Promote more from within.

    Pros

Serving the public is a rewarding job. Ok benefits. If you kiss up enough you might promote eventually unless you are not white.

    Cons

Nepotistic. Very racist policies. Expensive health insurance. Poor management. No flexibility in schedules. Unreasonable dress restrictions. Bad morale.

    Advice to Management

Stop rewarding bad behavior. Allow flexible schedules. Stop racism and judgmental treatment of clients
