I worked at State of North Carolina as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

The state had develped many policies to foster work-life balance.

    Cons

The atmosphere was very hierarchical and mid-level managers seemed very focused on keeping lower level employees "in their place".

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at State of North Carolina full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits package it the best.

    Cons

Pay is not the best leadership needs improving biggest problem lack of training for new hires and lack of pay raises. I have no personal time for family life because I have two jobs. And I cant see any room for growth.

    Advice to Management

Better training program for new boiler operators would make it safer, and would give our shift supervisors peace of mine and all state employees need a increase in pay lot of your employee have to work two jobs just to live. Please give use some cross training or schooling opportunity so we can improve our chances to apply for other career opportunity with the state.
