I worked at Stryker full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

The work can be rewarding. Decent benefits. Good people. Focused on giving young folks a chance to learn and grow. New opportunities are abundant for young, lower paid employees. Participate in community outreach initiatives.

Cons

In my experience, they talk the talk, but struggle with walking the walk. Not for the faint of heart. Much is expected but appropriate resources are lacking to support the demands. Not willing to pay for experience. Gallup screening is heavily weighted, but the results are mediocre in many cases. Diversity exists only at the mid to lower salary levels. Office environment is noisy and crowded.

Advice to Management

I suspect a lot of money could be saved on things like the Q12 survey. Many responses are not honest because work groups don't have the resources to pursue anything more than innocuous improvement projects. A survey every 3 years might be more beneficial.

Talking about Quality First is a great thing, but when it comes to making the tough decisions on a daily basis, compromise is often the result.

I have been working at Stryker full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is a unique culture which makes this an ideal place to work. There is a tremendous amount of pride in what people do and never lose sight of the fact we are helping peoples lives. Management has always been a upside and everyone is able to do their jobs without a supervisor looking over their shoulder.

    Cons

The major complaint is that with all the work and scope of responsibility the compensation is on the lower side. This is okay for awhile, but recent salary increases can not even keep up with yearly inflation.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time with the hourly folks.

  2. "Great company, alot of autonomy, they give interns real work, you won't be making coffee and copies"

I have been working at Stryker as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Autonomy, good mentoring, you are given a task and must figure it out, but everyone will take the time to help you. NO MICROMANAGING.

    Cons

Sometimes it is hard to get time with your manager for help, everyone is constantly overloaded, but it keeps you busy and days go fast. They have alot of corporate training you have to do on an almost weekly basis, which can eat up alot of time.
