Pros

Fantastic corporate culture: The mantra at StubHub is work hard, play hard. Although the daily grind can at times be vigorous, StubHub goes well out of their way to show employees that their work is valued. This is done through ticket raffles to various concerts and sporting events, free lunches, free bagels on Friday mornings, and tons of after work social opportunities. Also, there are countless ways to unwind during the work day, including ping pong tables and basketball games in break rooms, rock band, and ESPN on every TV in the office. Lastly, EVERYONE here is crazy about sports and/or music. It's great to work at a place that lets you talk about sports and music as part of your job.

Strong focus on values: StubHub's primary goal is to ensure buyers have the ultimate fan experience. This is reiterated over and over throughout the company. It also helps that everyone here is a sports/music fanatic. This helps put employees in the customer's shoes.

Excellent leadership: Chris Tsakalakis and his leadership team have done an excellent job propelling this company forward. They are extremely focused and driven towards accomplishing the company's BHAG. Furthermore, they clearly outline long and short term goals and what every department has to do to help accomplish them. Top-down communication is also excellent. Chris T sends out numerous company wide emails highlighting company news and accomplishments. More specific to the marketing department, Ray Elias (CMO) has done a fantastic job ensuring that there is strong synergy within our department.

Career opportunities: StubHub is expanding very quickly domestically and internationally, particularly in the UK. This creates the possibility of moving vertically and laterally within the company.

Compensation & Benefits: Employees are compensated very well for their work. In addition to a competitive salary, employees receive full benefits (health, vision, dental), 401k matching, eBay stock options, and reimbursement for public transportation expenses. Also, because StubHub is owned by eBay, employees get access to a number of eBay company perks. These include discounts on Zipcar rentals/membership, Apple products, major phone carrier plans (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint), Dell computers, gym memberships, pet insurance, FedEx shipping, popular California travel destinations (Disneyland, Universal Studios, etc.), and tons of other stuff.

Cons

Work/Life balance can be a bit skewed at times. This is something the company is looking to fix. They are conducting employee interviews and focus groups to look for how to remedy this.

Advice to Management

Keep up the good work!

    Pros

Solid company vision. Many bright folks in the company. "Big brother" eBay doesn't interfere with day-to-day operations. Great location in SOMA area. Potential for great culture but they still have some work to do.

    Cons

The vision is there but could use some more help with execution. Smart team but many seem to live for the lime-light. The people that have close relationships with management (i.e. buddies) are the ones who get promoted. But that's probably similar to how most large companies operate. Although the company is succeeding they seem to be cheap with no free food and few real incentives outside of salary, bonuses and RSU's.

    Advice to Management

Follow through with what you say. If you want the company to be built on culture then make sure the message is driven down to the bottom. It's not always about financial results but personal growth and job satisfaction at all levels.

I worked at StubHub as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Access to deals at concerts and sports events.

    Cons

The building is horrible in S.F. and the whole area around the building stinks like sewage in the summer time. High management rewards insane middle management. Absolutely no discussions with the employees are facilitated to get feedback on how the employees are being treated by said middle management. The job is no opportunity for anyone. It was just drudgery working there.

    Advice to Management

The middle management is being rewarded for treating your employees very badly. If you would only speak with your employees without them fearing retaliation, you might actually get to the bottom of the problems you are having.
