I worked at Suburban Hospital part-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Nice working in the Rehabilitative Medicine Department, along with the other allied health professionals, OT, PT, Speech Language Pathology. Interesting work with outpatients and inpatients, including hearing monitoring of ototoxic drugs, coma patients, and interoperative monitoring.

Cons

Salary and lack of advancement opportunities.

Advice to Management

When I was providing interoperative monitoring, I would sometimes arrive at 6 a.m., before my regularly scheduled time, and leave after my regularly scheduled time. Was not paid overtime. Also, interoperative monitoring is a high-level service, and I was the only one in the hospital who was able to do it, although was paid my regular salary. Interoperative monitoring should be compensated differently than regular audiology services.

I have been working at Suburban Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It is a private hospital that has now joined Johns Hopkins Medicine and has many partnerships with the hospitals surrounding it. The small atmosphere allows employees to get to know each other and have a sense of family.

    Cons

The hospital does not involve their nurses in decision making processes. There is also very little compensation for education.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest to involve the nurses in the decision making process, add more incentives for education advancement, and to learn what it is like to work on the floor.

    Pros

The employees who have been there for a long time are a respectable amount of people. They are very nice and helpful.

    Cons

Too many changes in favor of the management and not necessarily of the employees of Suburban. Seems like the focus points are not for the "workers".

    Advice to Management

Management needs to be more involved on the floor.
