I worked at Success Academy Charter Schools full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Kids were truly incredible, opportunities to go on some really cool field trips, very flexible spending budget for classroom necessities, teaching experience without a degree

    Cons

Extremely intimidating approach from teachers to students and leadership to teachers, perfectionism culture, overly stressed teachers, students, leadership, no work-life balance

    Advice to Management

-Make time to really absorb feedback from the teachers, students, parents. -Slow down on the expansion. -Build in more time for freedom of expression, curiosity and all around free time so the kids have an outlet. -Build a mentorship program to help with retention for new teachers so they can become successful lead teachers.

I have been working at Success Academy Charter Schools full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    - Every day I leave feeling like I made a positive difference in the lives of others (teachers, students, families). - I feel incredibly supported by an organization full of hardworking, passionate, smart individuals - At SA I have worked with some of the smartest educators I've ever met during my tenure in education. It feels very inspiring to wake up and come to work each day alongside them. - Supplies, materials,...

    Cons

    - I work around the clock. But I prefer it this way, and I did so even before joining Success Academies. I believe that in order to be an excellent educator and continuously improve your practice it requires some extra work and effort. - I love feedback and feeling like I'm growing, but if you are sensitive or do not like getting direct feedback then this is not the place for you.

    Advice to Management

    - Continue the constant quest to grow, improve, innovate, and prove everyone out there wrong in terms of what is truly possible. - Thank you for supporting my development. Continue investing in your people. This helps us feel valued. Some of the unique opportunities I've received have helped me feel appreciated for the things I bring to the organization. The talent and people we have are worth it, myself included....

Given everything to be succesful at your job. The company is always looking to improve. They understand that although we have good academic data, we need to continue to improve the experience for the child. High expectations for all adults (this is difficult for many adults who don't want to be held accountable), parents are involved in students academic and behavior progress, you get a chance to grow as a professional....

    Cons

longer days, encouraging teachers who want to work a slower pace of job, training new teachers every year (this can be exciting and engaging)
