I have been working at Success Academy Charter Schools full-time for less than a year

    Pros

-Surprisingly decent insurance benefits -You will occasionally have an Ops team happy hour -You will occasionally have an Ops team lunch where you don't have to pay for your meal -Pre-tax commuter benefits comparable to most other organizations in the city

    Cons

-As an Operations member you DO NOT receive all typical school vacation times off. You receive ONE WEEK during the entire summer break, do not be fooled. -Every single school is massively under-staffed. Operations team members are often asked to go above and beyond to play more than one role at a time in order to off-set this imbalance. -YOU DO NOT RECEIVE PTO. Success chooses to frame "time off" for Ops team members...

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent and understanding with your staff. Be more involved in the classrooms rather than only popping in to dole out negative feedback. Get to know your operations team and their asks, step up for them as much as you feel obligated to do for the teachers. Not a single senior leader I have worked with has had their Operations teams back. The turnover rate is only going to increase until you start hearing,...

I have been working at Success Academy Charter Schools full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Smart, interesting, committed colleagues & interesting work. I'm lucky to have the perspective of working many places, some of them truly crazy. While SA is not perfect -- no place is -- the culture here is about the best I've ever experienced. It's hard work because we are creating something that doesn't exist anywhere else in New York, maybe the country. We're inventing as we go and so it can be frustrating and...

Some of the above, actually. It really depends on the person and what you're looking for.

    Advice to Management

More town hall type meetings. more dialogue between upper management and middle managers.

I have been working at Success Academy Charter Schools full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I've been working in the SA network office for 2.5 years. The best part is that it attracts talented, passionate people who come from a wide variety of professional backgrounds. It's an opportunity to work shoulder-to-shoulder with people who were top talent in their respective fields, who have now come together to create change in America's educational landscape. I also value a feedback culture that encourages growth,...

    Cons

There is a process problem that can create frustration and sometimes leads to inefficiencies. At times there is a top-down culture, but that being said, we are for the most part encouraged to voice our opinions and given room to execute our own ideas.

    Advice to Management

Continue to improve cross-team processes and efficiencies.
