Pros

Some great, intelligent and fun people to work with at Sugar. Quarterly company meetings are informative. Compensation and benefits are good.

Cons

Company has shifted from a collaborative, team environment to a company with lots of politics and self-centered people, most in management positions. CEO has his favorites, especially the people he has brought in. No long term plan for the company, or at least one that has been communicated to the employees. Lots of start-stop initiatives. The sharing of information varies from department to department as does the competency levels of management.

Advice to Management

Focus on what is best for the company, not just your specific area. Treat employees with respect and value the contributions they are making to the organization. Communicate a long term plan.

    Pros

    Very fast growing company. Great opportunities at this moment for personal and career advancements. Collaborative work culture. High pedigree CEO and low profile who is well respected both internally as well as externally.

    Cons

    Management inconsistencies between different departments. Fast growth comes with challenges. Corporate HQ is a bit dated and very crowed (that does have its benefits as well). Company could benefit from better planning.

    Pros

    They would bring in food quite frequently

    Lots of talented people around to learn from

    Product was descent but not great

    Cons

    The politics within this company are absolutely ridiculous. Friends of managers were promoted and praised. Regular guys were worked to death and never given an inch. Also, nepotism is rampant, there are several nephews\brothers etc...working for the company. These people are also given preferential treatment.

    Management has no desire to praise, encourage or otherwise reward anyone.

    This company is bent on selling the company and whoa be to you if you are standing in the way. People are routinely thrown under the bus, even executives. I saw 40% of the staff fired or laid off during my two years there, even though revenues were steadily rising.

    Advice to Management

    I really don't know where to begin. Start hiring managers who know what they are doing.
