Pros

Awesome place to work. CEO on downwards are all technical provide great leadership. Engineering is moving from a start-up mode into a larger, more refined process. Wonderful to be a part of this growth. Friendly management, and great peers.

Cons

Can't think of any downsides to working at Sugar at the moment. A bit of growing pains, but that comes with any company thats maturing.

I have been working at SugarCRM full-time

    Pros

In 2011 and 2012 the company was growing quickly and hired some good people
Recently revamped buildings with open design

    Cons

Unable to handle the rapid increase in staff, the company went into a tail spin in the late Summer of 2012 and has since declined rapidly. The company had success moving into the mid-market from 2010-2012, but recently let go most of the VAR account managers and sales team, including some of the highest performing sales professionals in the company. Marketing reports to the head of engineering, who has created a horrible culture for the group. Demand creation is non existent. SugarCRM had potential, but it's gone. It is now a terribly place to work.

    Advice to Management

Advice to the board - replace the executive team that clearly has no idea what they are doing.

I have been working at SugarCRM full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Sugar is organized to respond well to mid-market customers. Employees are generally treated well and given opportunities to acquire knowledge and assume broader responsibilities. Communication on product status and roadmap is open and candid. Executives are visible, accessible and engaged in the company.

    Cons

With rapid growth, the expected symptoms of process gaps and a high volume of organizational changes are present. Sugar endeavors to bring the product to enterprise customers and this is a very challenging directive that is not yet resourced effectively. The product roadmap is heavily influenced by a committee of a few which assures predictable development but may stifle creativity and game-changing.

    Advice to Management

Critically examine the go-to-market strategy for enterprise customers to ensure resources (technical account managers, enterprise sales, development and support engineers) are available and directly aligned to the timeline and initiatives.
