Pros

Excellent work / life balance!

Cons

The company is dispersed - you often don't know what others are doing; as a result efforts can be unintentionally doubled.

Advice to Management

Work from home is the best benefit at Sun - encourage people to use it!

    Pros

Open Work (flex assignments) allows you to work when, where and how is most appropriate, saving me time and money. The opportunities are endless for doing very interesting things and feeling like you are really making a difference in the company. Sun is on the forefront of eco responsible trends - from the computers and campuses to working to keep employees where it makes sense.

    Cons

Sun can be difficult to navigate through, it's full of very smart people and the culture requires you to be very, very self starting. Sun is still to a large extent considered a hardware company. The future is software and services to build relationships, but it's tough for some to see the light.

    Advice to Management

Keep remembering that software and services build long term relationships, not a box in a data center.

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, nice environment, and fitness center. Pay scales are good, but can be problematic if you have to find another job. Many other companies in the Valley pay less for non-executive level jobs. Most people are smart and willing to collaborate, but the work-from-home culture can make it difficult to keep in touch. It takes effort to learn how to function when you almost never see the people you work with in person.

    Cons

Impending layoffs, unclear direction, low stock price, and reorgs can chew up a lot of precious time and delays getting product to market. Also, the medical plan is not what it used to be. Less coverage and we pay more for it out of our salaries. Sometimes I think a lower salary at a company with a much better medical plan would be worth it.

    Advice to Management

Please put your personal goals aside for a moment and make some decisions that are for the good of the company.
