I have been working at Sun Trading full-time

Pros

Technology is top-notch and the firm is willing to invest what it takes to win. Strong risk management. Great data platform and access to every major market. Friendly, open culture with no big egos, insane hours or screaming bosses. You get to work with tons of data, use cutting-edge technology and see the results of your work very quickly. Management has always stuck to their word regarding compensation. Reasonable base pay and great benefits.

Cons

Markets are far more efficient than they were years ago and competition is fierce. Not a lot of guidance or hand-holding. This is not an industry where you can coast and collect a big guaranteed paycheck. Work environment can be stressful at times.

Advice to Management

Continue to diversify and grow. Ensure risk management initiatives do not slow progress or make the firm bureaucratic. Build an organic talent pipeline with more college recruiting. Some of the most successful people at Sun came from outside the industry. Recognize the efforts of non-trading technology staff. Our success depends on them.

The media discussion around "HFT" has been hijacked by conspiracy theorists since firms like Sun have traditionally flown under the radar. Automated market-making has enormous benefits for all market participants and markets have never been more fair or efficient. Don't be afraid to set the record straight.

I worked at Sun Trading full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Sun was a good company, when they were still highly profitable.
    Good technology, good exchanges relationship.

    Cons

100% agree with the comment below, when the markets are hard, they just do everything that they can to cutback, don’t really appreciate their employee, too much politics going on under the new management

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

    Pros

One of the larger market makers out there. Good systems, technology and access to pretty much every possible trading venue

    Cons

large shabby office quite tired looking, remove the monitors and you would see a bunch of grimy desks, very few in office perks.

    Advice to Management

Management have lost focus on the staff in race for profits, they don't care and more than happy to use you and dump you. Think about your staff, treat them well, and this will help the business grow. Staff satisfaction is at an all time low.
