Pros

Decent benefits. However, the work environment varies drastically depending on which division you are in. If you are lucky, you can work with hard working, highly skilled people. SunGard is large and hence there are opportunities to advance if you are willing to look beyond your own unit.

Cons

Too quick to layoff in order to make their numbers. Consolidation and layoffs are eliminating many solid employees, leaving those left overworked and overstretched. Consolidation is happening faster than remaining employees can obtain the skills and industry/product knowledge to cover new tasks.

Advice to Management

Senior management at the division level needs to better understand the business model of the products under them. While standard practices can lead to some efficiencies, remember that an acquired company was doing something right prior to acquisition.

    Pros

Well, after thinking of something positive to say about Sungard, I can confidentially say that the paychecks were always deposited on time.

    Cons

Low pay, poor benefits, lackluster support from senior management. I can go on.

    Advice to Management

    Start over from scratch.

    Pros

It is a large and diverse company with many opportunities. Depending on the division, the work can be very challenging and rewarding. It will almost always be a good resume builder.

    Cons

The company was taken private in an LBO in 2005. Since then they have struggled with debt repayment and finances are very tight. No matter how much money the company makes, it isn't enough. Employees will be given small raises, little to no bonuses, and told to keep all expenses to a minimum.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are not as dumb and naive as you think they are.
