Approves of CEO

Pros

Large well-established company with a good reputation, yet has a small-company feel since the company consists of a large number of small business units. Good work atmosphere, diverse workforce, many talented co-workers, interesting products and projects. Strong vision at the executive management level.

Cons

It can be difficult to gain visibility with management above your immediate supervisor since the organization tends to be very hierarchical. Not easy to learn about opportunities in other business units since each unit is self-contained.

Advice to Management

Find a way of sharing information and job opportunities across business units; provide a way of rotating people into other assignments across business units to increase retention and cross-fertilization.

    Pros

Its a stable company, wide variety of divisions in corporate parent, and constantly acquiring new companies, which can mean access to new technologies.

    Cons

Majorly bureaucratic due to corporate parent edicts on shared technology services. Constant acquisitions can force grief on corporate parent staff and integration can get messy. IT security policy is one-size-fits-all

    Advice to Management

Decentralize the divisions, allow them to choose their own technology winners/vendors, let IT security policy evolve with new ideas and methodologies

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Most of the employees are competent and sincere in their desire to do a good job. The sense of camaraderie in the face of workplace obstacles helps get through the day.

    Cons

The only management that the directors and VPs seem to have mastered is micromanagement. They have found a way to demand results while making sure that their underlings dare not make a move without authorization. This combined with the constant re-organization betrays the fact that the company is out of control. Staffs have been cut to the point that employees' attention is dragged from crisis to crisis , preventing progress on important projects.

    Advice to Management

Bring in professional managers to run the organization rather than plucking "high performers" from within and promoting them to the level of the incompetence.
