I worked at SunTrust full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

SunTrust was a great place to work and then the new CEO came in.

    Cons

Cutting every expense like travel, training, bonuses, paper, supplies, coffee, benefits, ... (for non executives), selling a lot of assets to cover bad debt, off shoring nearly all of IT, outsourcing almost everything else, and to bring in a new CIO from India who is pushing with vigor the off shoring agenda (to guess where.. India). It is obvious to nearly everyone that the direction SunTrust is headed is to be sold. Therefore, expect continuous cuts, layoffs, outsourcing and off shoring. This is however a sound business decision. This will cause the stock prices to raise significantly before the company is Sold so that the Board of Directors, "C" suite officers, and other major investors get a significant parting bonus. It is not so good for those thousands of folks here in the US who put in 40+ per week to make everything work.....

    Advice to Management

Would be like trying to change the course of the Mississippi River by talking to it. Therefore I decline.

I worked at SunTrust as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

    Some good and caring people.

    Cons

Join the company if you enjoy micromanagement.
I am not one who makes a habit of writing experiences, but i feel for the sake of future potential employees looking to consider a position with the company, please don't.
Management-No "Work life balance" to the point where upper management had made it a mandatory practice for employees to work 6 days a week. Even indirectly implied forcefully stay to work if sales have not been met
Under paid, worst in the industry compared to competition
Worst incentive program in the industry. Making a couple hundred bucks, maybe even a thousand if your lucky every three months, given you achieve pie in the sky goals across the board.
No appreciation for employees hard work. Training is outdated, systems are outdated, and many of the upper management also think in an old fashioned manner where they believe they are actually doing good, but in reality making everything worse
Fsr- Stay away- pie in the sky goals- horrible incentive program-underpaid
    Tellers-underpaid

On the financial advisory side, not so bad. Some good perks , although starting to get cracked down on as the time goes by

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the old schoolers mentality and train of thought. Take a better look at the "managers lead by example philosophy" most certainly needs an overhaul. Start at the base and I suggest to take a better look at the "value" statement of the company. Clearly if it was followed, you wouldn't have majority of your employees looking so miserable, burnt out, and unmotivated to perform. You push, push, push, all the staff to perform, to the point they reach a breaking point and quit, hence a massive turnover rate and obscene amount of opening? Hello!!! Doesn't take a genius to figure you have a problem. Truly, in my entire banking career, have I ever seen such a miserable and depressed, over worked looking group of people. I have worked in several banking institutions, currently at another, and my god, the company is in severe need of overhaul. You need to take a better look at the word "Value". Someone reading this will think, huh, there goes another unhappy, maybe underperforming employee who probably was going to get canned anyway. Far from it. Speaking for myself, very highly educated individual, who worked there by choice, not by form of despair.
    Seriously,
Invest in better technology to advance the prehistoric software
Invest into a better employee appreciation program
Incorporate a better incentive plan, not one that is currently despised by all the employees. Understand the word "voicing an opinion". A successful business is not only successful by profit margins and sales, but by the employees who give it their all each and every day,
