I worked at SunTrust full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Good benefits package, don't really have to work hard to succeed.

Cons

The only people truly happy working here are those who have never worked anywhere else, and so have nothing to compare it to. At senior levels it's an old boys club - - don't deliver results? It probably wasn't your fault. Don't fit in the club? You aren't a "cultural fit" with the organization.

Many other reviewers say its political, which is true. The most successful executives are those who get along, can avoid having disasters pinned on them (decision by committee), and throw their subordinates under the bus with no shame.

Advice to Management

Grow some backbone. Focus on accountability, not consensus.

I worked at SunTrust full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - smart people (many new hires have substantial banking experience and the ingrained SunTrust folks are the best of their culture).
    - strong systems (wonderfully integrated, though slow at times).
    - culture of learning (training opportunities abound).
    - flexible work locations (managers seem to be flexible about telecommuting).

    Cons

    - disconnect between corporate growth goals and conservative credit culture.
    - process driven - form over substance.
    - demanding on family time.
    - "gotcha" culture

    Advice to Management

    - concentrate on the client interaction rather than allowing senior credit to bog down the organization.

    Pros

    Great people to work with.

    Cons

Entrenched middle management (10+ yrs), doesn't allow change easily.

    Advice to Management

Move people around some and you might get a refreshed organization.
