    Hardcore dedicated leaders who care about the quality of care and improvement of life for patients, employees, and guests. I have been in the HCA system for 6 years and at Swedish for 2, but it's clear to me where the hardworking team players go. It is an honor to work here and be a part of in credible team to truly does care. I have seen some incredible challenges overcome by this team. I would gladly bring my family...

    It's not easy to work this hard and make sacrifices sometimes for others. But is pays off when your part of a team who all do the same to accomplish such great achievements.

    Pros

    Good benefits, stock options, and 401k matching. There are some long term employees in the lab with a lot of valuable experience and knowledge. Phlebotomy supplies are well stocked. Employees are welcome to share their thoughts during meetings and on surveys. Management tries to fix issues that they can (their hands are tied though). Tyler H (corporate) has pushed for real changes to help us.

    Cons

    The productivity standards (which the lab doesn't control) are unrealistic and often dangerous. We're told the lab is "fully staffed" but routinely only have two phlebotomists/lab assistants per shift on evenings and nights. This is half of what is truly needed (they have other duties on top of drawing!) and causes the nurses and doctors to become angry with the lab, which increases already sky high stress levels....

    Advice to Management

    Understand the importance of the lab in patient care. We are the phlebotomists drawing good patient samples to eliminate preanalytical errors. We are the technologists and scientists who run and interpret complex tests (none of us has a license in 'button-pushing'). Our results are almost always necessary for caregivers to diagnose and treat patients. There is a shortage in this field and you are losing good employees...
