Pros

The company is going through a lot of changes now, but probably will be a great place to work soon.

Cons

Uncertainty is the main problem right now. Still a great place though.

I worked at Symantec full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Symantec Corporation is a global company with a small company atmosphere. Most people know Symantec for its antivirus products, but it is a multi-dimensional company with plenty of opportunities.

    Cons

Although Symantec does have that small company feel - where senior personnel prefer to be on a first-name basis with their various employees, it is a publically traded company. Sometimes this means that when the stock price is not performing well, people will find themselves layed-off (regardless of how much time they have been with the company).

    Advice to Management

Most major companies go through lay-offs at some point. The one recommendation I would make is to do a better job of keeping key personnel instead of just "cutting across the board". I was only with Symantec for a little over 2 years, but in that time I witnessed people get layed-off that had been with the company for double-digit years. Ultimately, they moved on to other companies, but that meant a serious loss of talent for Symantec, and an immediate benefit for a rival company.
