I worked at Talisman Energy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Salary was competitive. Stock options were ok when gas prices were high.

    Cons

Poor leadership that lacked vision and direction from the top down resulted in mid to first line management decisions and direction that lacked substance and logic. This plague affected all aspects of the company including H.R., Engineering, Geology/Geophysics, Accounting, Supply Management and Field Operations. Company departments work in silos resulting in poor collaboration, high costs and disappointing results. Many people were promoted to leadership roles before their time adding to the frustration and confusion. Talisman is an outstanding example of how things should not be done.

    Advice to Management

The leadership problem began prior to John Manzoni taking over the helm but the situation certainly didn't improve during his five years with the company. Hopefully Mr. Kvisle can turn the ship around.
