I worked at Target full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

* Opportunity to work across multiple product categories.
* Super fun culture. (work hard, play hard)
* Great general business education and responsibility given for younger executives. (I owned a $500MM P&L at the age of 25)
* I had 9 bosses in 6 years, and 8 out of 9 were solid people to work for. That's impressive.

Cons

* Drink the cool-aid. You've gotta fit in with the culture. if you don't, that will hurt your career potential.
* It's Minnesota, and it's the midwest. You'll encounter passive aggressiveness here & there, and Minneapolis is a relatively homogeneous location. Most people have never left Minnesota/Wisconsin.

Advice to Management

Go outside of the midwest for talent. Target's awful at segmentation, and it's because no one understands a non-midwest market.

I worked at Target as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great management experience, you have the opportunity to lead a team and be the acting manager of a 70 million dollar store. Constant feedback through out the internship allows you to grow as a leader. Fun socials with other interns and volunteer events made the internship fun.

    Cons

work/life balance. I worked 7am-3:45pm 5 days a week. I worked every other weekend, so I would get a day off during the week to compensate for that. The hours sucked. Every Wednesday I worked 3pm-midnight, and some Sundays I had to be at the store at 6am.

This job would be amazing if the hours werent so bad.

    Advice to Management

Do not work the ETLs so hard. STLs need to be more involved.
