I have been working at Target full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Team member development is a focus. You feel appreciated as a team member/employee. Advancement opportunities within the first 14-18 months, yearly bonus depending on store performance. Tuition reimbursement.

Cons

Long hours, its retail! Work weekends and nights--some nights can last til 1-2am. Holiday hours are insane! Holidays are blacked-out for vacation time. Some team members have been with the company for YEARS and it can be difficult to manage them.

I worked at Target as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Target is a very fun place to work. Depending on your location and demographic, the culture of the store can vary. I was placed in a minority abundant neighborhood. Many of the guests had large families but low basket value, meaning there were a lot of people to came in and out of the store, but our sales were relatively low. You get to work with a lot of different people, age and culture. It's really a great place to work if you want to gain leadership and management experience.

    Cons

The position was fun but it was not as challenging as I had hoped. The good thing about the internship is that if you do well, it's highly likely you will get a full time offer. Their compensation is very generous, especially for a recent college graduate.

I worked at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -flexible with schedule
    -employee discount and promotins
    -employee appreciation days
    -enjoyed working with fellow employees

    Cons

-compensation and benefits could be better (see advice to management)
-many positions were cut during the recession, increasing the workload and responsibilities

    Advice to Management

compensation and benefits are lacking, and I actually took a paycut to come from Wal-Mart to Target. Higher compensation/benefits could lead to long-term employees, instead of constantly cycling through them.
