Negative Outlook

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Hours and Benefits are great.

Cons

Does not promote the most knowledgeable and experienced leaders from within.
Promotional opportunities are based on a certain, specific mold and criteria not having much to do with the business modules and goal plans.
Full credit is given to those who put on the "best show", instead of the ones who actually put in the best work.

Advice to Management

Business knowledge, great work ethic, and experience should be considered when promoting into higher leadership.

    Pros

You will make friends, it just happens. There are some cool people at Target to be friends with and talk to about other things aside of work, but you have to be careful with whom you associate with there.

    Cons

Horrible management, always being pressured by deadlines that management should've had taken care of weeks or days beforehand. They leave it to the floor associates because they think they have other better things to do, which they do not. Normally they are texting as they walk past you, even though your not allowed to pull your phone out. Great example, right? Then afterwards, they want to get mad at an employee for not hopping to a task even though they had just spend the last 30 or so minutes chatting it up with some friend manager and texting. They get bonuses for getting associates out of the store at closing hour by a certain time, and also for "payroll reasons". They always said, "Ok guys, due to payroll we are going to go ahead and clock out". Partially, it is payroll because they are losing money & can't afford to hire full time associates. Only supervisors and management get full time-and most of them cannot or are not made for management. They get a bonus so they have to tell you its due to payroll reasons, but they think the associates are dumb. The pay is horrible, unless your in management. A few managers there told me before what they got paid and it was descent, but not the greatest. The pay raises are horrible. Your performance review will be retarded and not up to par. I could go on and on, but you get the picture. Go experience it for yourself. You may actually like it, but give it time, then you will see what is really going on from within.

    Advice to Management

Stop the micromanagement. It is ridiculous how associates are treated there. I've witnessed some nasty behavior and verbal abuse. Maybe if you got on board with being more laid back and not on a power trip, you wouldn't have such a high turnover rate. Target is a nice store to shop in, but working there was a nightmare.
