multinational employee population (cross cultural misunderstanding); lack of top-level executive vision or leadership; lack of identity; weak long-term research investment; fragmented disciplines; siloed departments; no integration protocols (numerous recent acquisitions with zero integration); provincial thinking; misdirected retention policies (driven by French union regulations, rather than merit); declining value in patent portfolio; too many chefs; little corporate understanding of divisional value

Advice to Management

take the time to explore, develop, and implement clear and consistent strategy; give executive staff the reins; make decisions and stick with them for more than a month; stop being drive nby the bottom line ALL the time and open yourselves up to the concept of visionary management and focus.

    Pros

    High technology in video distribution. You can learn alot when you apply yourself. Good place to start if your looking for an Engineering carer in video switching. Good if you are hourly becuase they will work you 60hr weeks.

    Cons

    Poor management. Employees never get time off without guilt trip from management. Resource allocation is non existant. Difficult to raise a heathy family with the required manditory work hours. Always under staffed and behind schdual on projects. Poor motivation for long term employees.

    Advice to Management

    Staff at appropriate levels, stop working your people into the dirt. Offer a future in the company for the people that survive the long work hours. Bring back the GVG standard in excellence.

    Pros

    In a time of economic upheaval, it is an apparently stable company. There is a sense of pride in Technicolor brand recognition.

    Cons

    There is no opportunity for advancement (not even the typical 3% to cover inflation) Management is misleading about this grim fact during the hiring process. They are also misleading about the opportunity for advancement of not only individual employees but also the status of particular departments within the company. Employees are actually discouraged from going above and beyond because superior quality work may generate more work for the company therefore putting more work/stress on middle management. It has become apparent that the company is just a vehicle for middle management to maintain cushy lifestyles with the least amount of actual work. Their complaints are always the same, "that's not my job, that's the client's job. " Clashes like this, between clients and middle managers inevitably affect client relations causing many lost clients and a stagnation in overall growth. There is high turnover in the sales department, in particular. Hardware quality lags behind other competitors causing a loss of new and current clients.

    Advice to Management

    Invest in superior sales people that will generate new business. Offer opportunities for advancement as an incentive for employees to perform better. There needs to be a serious shake up of middle management within this branch of Technicolor.
