Pros

Its a stable company with good money coming through the door
People are generally pretty nice - but such a big place can be highly dependant on what team you're in

Cons

Big, slow, moving beast. Making real efforts to become more customer centric but its a big ship to turn around. Sometimes I can go for months, doing a lot of analysis, but not feeling like I'm having an impact - on anything

Advice to Management

break down teams into smaller more entrepreneurial teams and push authority to them (accept that people will get stuff wrong)

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Public service mentality remains, resulting in a regular 9-5 job in most scenarios.
    Reasonably stable employment.

    Cons

No innovation or excitement in the workplace.

    Advice to Management

Re-analyze the strategic direction on outsourcing and vendors, choose the right vendor for the right job. Stop funding vendors to build products, find products that already or else develop them in-house.
Remove the blind 70/30 off-shoring rule in favor of measurable, proven productivity improvements and cost reductions from vendors.
Implement a coherent, enterprise-wide architecture practice to remove overlaps, contention and politics across the divisions, departments & groups

  2. "Great people, still lots of change to come to remove the bureaucracy and take the company to the next level"

    Pros

Working on the latest new products, great people everywhere doing their best, most very switched on and dedicated at getting the best outcomes for the customer and the company. The chance to work on things that impact a large number of people.

    Cons

Bureaucracy stifling real progress. Still a large degree of political play, silos, defending existing arrangements. Needs a massive cultural change if to succeed in a market that is slowly taking away the high margins it has enjoyed for years.

    Advice to Management

First get some engineers or software professionals on the board. The place seems to be run by accounting decisions for short terms numbers - this may work for a short time, but will put the company in worse stead in the longer run.
