Negative Outlook

I have been working at The Arc full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Helping individuals with disabilities. Flexible hours. Friendly staff (at least more are).

Cons

Nearly all of the currently employees in administration are friends or family members. Wages in admin. fluctuate greatly (upward of $14 an hour +/- of each other); not based upon years of service, knowledge, or even degree type. More or less of how well you "sell yourself," or how well you know upper management.

Advice to Management

Remember the reason Arc was created; keep the vision in mind when making decisions!

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at The Arc full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There's great perks- fully paid medical, dental & vision insurance for employees after 90 days. Annual leave time starts upon hire with 10 hours accrued every month. There are no set schedules- so if you have an appointment you can make up the hours during the rest of the week.

    Cons

Staffing is 50/50. Often there is retirement age staff that works hard and is dedicated, then there's younger staff more interested in their smart phones that neglect the consumers. Staff turn over is high, and there are no set schedules so it can make it impossible to schedule something in advance if staffing is short.

    Advice to Management

Reward & recongnize long term, dedicated staff. Do unannounced spot checks on staff to insure the consumers are being cared for!
