Pros

Everyone at the company definitely shares a love for the product and a commitment to the company's values, as well as upholding the standards of the late Dame Anita Roddick. As a store manager, you can call almost any other manager in the district for a question and they will be extremely nice and help in any way they can. The company is bringing a new focus on training and really coming out with some new great tools to use. They are always coming out with new products, give employees a 40% discount, and some free stuff too! Benefits are pretty decent, vacation time accumulates easily. 75% of store managers are hourly, which means you get paid for overtime (even though they highly discourage it) and time and a half for holidays.

Cons

No one got raises last year. No, I'm not joking. The company was -2% in sales, so no one in the entire company was given raises during the annual performance appraisal process in April '08. Very frustrating for the many managers and associates whose stores performed above average and still were not compensated for their service. Also, there is a serious lack of communication coming from home office/district managers. They will say floorset on Friday. Then change it to Thursday. Then, on Tuesday night, they'll make you redo your schedules because, oh, they've changed their mind again, floorset is on Wednesday. So you'll make your schedule 3 times.

Advice to Management

Stop raising prices on products every 3 months. We know the economy is going down the toilet, but our competitors are not raising their prices, and somehow they are surviving... Offer more incentives for part time employees. They do not get bonuses or benefits so they need some sort of incentive to keep going, especially in a store with no full time staff except the Shop Manager.

I have been working at The Body Shop part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great company to work for in terms of levels you can reach when you put the work in and build your customer base/business. Cruelty free products is a definite plus. best way to promote and build your business is to actually be using the products. You can work as little or as often as you want to around your family/existing commitments. We are suppose to be in HYPER GROWTH yet our system was able to cope and crash right at the start of peak !!!!! Lots of support/advice in most of the groups via social media.

    Cons

Constantly compete with our high street stores and online when it comes to offers/promotions ! :( this is NOT good, this is where you'll potentially lose sales and customers very quickly !!! If your not naturally a sales person or you don't have a massive groups of friends that will buy from you often you might struggle a bit. Very little at times help/support from some managers when it's really needed.

    Advice to Management

Management above need to be more understanding and supportive when the system fails us. Less talk of being patient and staying positive and more talk of WHY they system crashed at such a time ...... it's not like it's the companies first Christmas ............ Better training/start up package for ALL beginners. Initial training really isn't up to much, content really needs to be more, especially on their system !!
