I worked at The E.W. Scripps Company full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Scripps is becoming a fair workplace. With the onset of the Scripps 3.0 initiative a higher value was placed on treating employees fairly. Training and properly equiping people became a high priority. Information about company expectations began to flow freely.

Cons

Some management holdover from the old days before Scripps 3.0 still treats employees with contempt. There is sometimes a mean spiritedness and people are unreasonably suspected of not doing their jobs well. Salary ranges are all over the board. Independent Contractors are often treated like employees.

I worked at The E.W. Scripps Company full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some Benefits.... but costly to employees.

    Cons

Not enough employees to do the work, but don't goof up! Clueless, untrained, inexperienced managers. The most incompetent HR department I've ever been involved with. By no means is HR advocates for employees or even mediators. Incredibly outdated equipment that doesn't work properly and then the operators are blamed and get "warning letters" for failing to do their job. 3 strikes and you're out even with many, many years of tenure. PTO= Sickdays+Vacation. No pension=We don't want you around long.

    Advice to Management

Follow the Scripps "Camp Joy" Philosophy. Encourage the Heart of others and don't keep pounding people down. Accept when someone "Challenges the Process" and don't laugh in employees faces because they may have a better way of doing something that you didn't think of. The Camp Joy philosophies are for ALL employees, not just those who do all the work. Get rid of the Gold Coin "rewards" It's dumb and childish. If you want professionals working for you, don't treat them like kids.
