I worked at The Fresh Market full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Co-workers were supportive and eager to help each other out in a crunch.

Cons

Pay did not match with the amount of work and responsibility. Large amount of stress due to the company growing and not enough employees to support workload. Management in the dept. was like a revolving door and there was not any consistency.

Advice to Management

Employees need to be compensated properly for there to be positivity and enjoyment in the workplace. The department that I worked in was real stressful and that was one of the reasons that I had sought out for other employment.

I have been working at The Fresh Market full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Interacting with customers is a plus. While some can be demanding it is a good atmosphere.

    Cons

Destructive issues with employees go unchecked while good employees are treated with disregard.

    Advice to Management

Actually BE leaders and encourage the employees who are actively trying to make a difference despite the less than competitive wages. Address the employees who consistently create trouble and don't be afraid to actually fire people for taking advantage of the policies or who are insubordinate. You are going to be left with sub-par employees because the good workers will leave to avoid feeling that they are not only uncompensated, but unappreciated as well.

I worked at The Fresh Market full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

20% off of food. That is about it

    Cons

Pay is garbage. Once Ray Barry decided to take the company public, it went to crap. The only thing senior leadership cared about at that point was cutting cost, corners, and lowering SG&A. It was a company that was run out of fear from the top down. (Besides Craig Carlock - who is a genuinely nice and intelligent guy) Sean Crane who at the time was COO is a very rude and untrustworthy individual, would throw anybody under the bus just to get out of trouble with Ray, even his peers. He would frequently walk into a store for a check up and fire, say a produce employee because the apples hadn't been culled properly( Not with the kindest language either). With the way he speaks to people, he probably wouldn't be hired at any job other than a grocery store (He came from Grand Union). It was at one point, a decent company to work for, but there is a reason why it is now voted one of the worst retailers in America to work for.......

    Advice to Management

Try to have a high retention rate of employees that are quality instead of dogging every one for as long as they can last and then losing them. The turnover rate is appalling.
