I worked at The Hershey Company full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Salary Competitive benefits including relocation Viewed positively by investment community Well known name on your resume

    Cons

If you aren't assigned to a chocolate brand, good luck. Hershey wants to be a snacking company, but because its chocolate products are its most important equities, you won't receive the same training, development and internal respect in marketing if you don't work on a chocolate brand. Furthermore, Talent Management Committee that manages rotations and promotions is staffed by Chocolate brand directors. So again, if... you aren't on a chocolate brand, you most likely aren't getting the same visibility as everyone else. I would also be wary of relocating here if you are single. Everyone in marketing is married, so you'll have trouble connecting with others if you aren't. Hershey is also trying to make its culture more innovative and risk-friendly, but it is a CPG company in central PA, just outside Amish country. I am not sure this exercise will work, given that you still need to have your advertising signed off by your VP. That doesn't sound like ownership and risk-taking if you ask me. Additionally the pressure on the U.S. Business to deliver is significant, because Hershey is not growing outside the U.S. as quickly as it would like to do so. Therefore, you frequently have your budgets slashed last minute to keep Wall St happy!

    Advice to Management

Stop treating folks who don't work in chocolate marketing like they are ugly stepchildren and make the promotion and talent management processes more transparent.

I worked at The Hershey Company for less than a year

    Pros

The people there were all really nice, and willing to help you or talk to you. The company culture was very laid back, and was an enjoyable place to work. There also was always chocolate around.

    Cons

The biggest con is honestly the location. As a young person, there is not a lot in Hershey to do.
