I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Benefits package, advancement opportunities. flexibility of schedule, chance to meet lots of new and interesting people, chance to learn home improvement (DIY) skills for free

    Cons

Extremely high amount of "office politics" considering it's retail, grossly under-staffed, annual "raises" are nothing more than Cost of Living Adjustments if you are lucky, expected to be knowledgeable in numerous areas in order to be taken advantage of and over-worked rather than simply staffing accordingly. High number of lazy associates seem to hang on forever simply because they have good service skills.

    Advice to Management

The company has come a long way in the past few years in terms of returning to core values and profitability shows that, but moving forward to maintain levels of desired customer service there must be a separation between "tasking" positions and "customer service" positions. Customer service will suffer in the long run if everyone is expected to be "jacks of all trades".

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Someday you can quit or get fired. None else that readily come to mind. Worst job I've ever had, can't wait to leave.

    Cons

All. Too many to mention. This is the embodiment of a living hell on earth with most management promoted well beyond their ability.
