I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Good opportunity for one who wants to be in outside sales. Severence package is good if they decide they don't want you anymore.

Cons

Be weary of any position that they tell you is a "pilot" position. They will not tell you untill after you are hired. A pilot position is a "test" position and if they cancel it, there is no place else in the company that you can go. Say hello to unemployment.

Advice to Management

Don't bother hiring anyone that didn't start out as a hard working cashier or apron wearing associate because in reality you don't feel that "outsiders" are equal.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company values and making a difference in communities served.

    Cons

Absolutely ridiculous extremes to protect long-term employees, no matter how incompetent, while willing to throw away bright enthusiastic newcomers that try to present new ideas and thinking. Conventional wisdom: "We don't do that here...were you hired by Nardelli?" And: "I used to work for Bernie, so..."

    Advice to Management

Stop protecting the career-stalled, uninspired and unmotivated robots that stand in the way of process improvement and growth. If you actually participated instead of pre-planned, canned town hall meetings, you'd see just how little synergy is left at your SSC.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people that work there can leave ever lasting memories and are by far the best at what they do. The Cookouts are always an amazing sight. The customers will built a relationship with you that will allow you to make jokes with them while still making them smile.

    Cons

The managers don't care about the employees all they see is numbers but as soon as you see HR or the District managers walking around they automatically turn into the nicest managers.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest patting your employees on the back a lot more often that actually goes a long way. get to know the people that work for you because they are the reason you still have job. A store does well when their employees do well.
