I have been working at The Home Depot full-time

Pros

Pay is great, the knowledge you would gain through Home Depot can prepare you for anything. The opportunities to start from the bottom and make your way up is superb. If you're smart and dedicated you can literally guide yourself to management.

Cons

Management team not properly trained to manage. There's no loyalty to hourly associates from upper management. Communication is terrible amongst the management team. Whenever regional or V.P.s come to the store management goes crazy and starts treating employees like crap

Advice to Management

Treat your employees with respect, make sure you communicate with your fellow management team so you can be on the same page. Be mature and stop picking favorites.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

When you first start out at The Home Depot, not only are you given quite a vast amount of training for your department, but there is also plenty of room to expand. If you're a sales floor associate in one department and have some free time on your hands, there is ample opportunity to go and do some additional online training to advance yourself in the store (either by taking the trainings for other departments, or even taking lift truck classes).

    Cons

Part-Time/Temporary Associates are -very- limited in the amount of hours they are given in a week.

Some managers may not exactly be best-suited for their job.

    Advice to Management

Just because someone has been in the company longer than most others, and know their department, does not mean that they are suited for managerial work; look at their performance as a -whole- in the company. Do they handle stress well? Do they work well in a team? Are they capable of leading a team? Have they had any history of issues with other associates (such as racism)? Do they display an acute knowledge of the company's Ethical Values? etc.
