I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Never bored; always seeking to be more efficient and deliver a better experience for customers and store Associates.

Cons

Publicly traded company; many indirect bad financial decisions made because of promises to stock holders or worry of the stock price. Also, not much vacation and long working hours.

Advice to Management

Continue to go back to the old days of focusing on your people. It needs to be implemented at every level including the stores. Provide opportunities to earn, buy or sell vacation.

    Pros

Good advancement is you're willing to work for it.
    Good benefits.
Ubiquitous; ability to move to different stores around the country.

    Cons

As a Salaried Manager, you're expected to be available at any time day or night. You are already expected to work a minimum of 50 hours a week, but it becomes much more when you're answering emails every hour of the day, going into work whenever you're called and working crazy hours when senior leadership is going to walk". The company speaks of a work life balance, but it doesn't exist.
    Poor Salaries for Hourly Associates.
Poor generated hours to sustain the customer traffic.
Poor retention of leadership, continues turnover for Leadership who have been with the company for 10+ years.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great learning Potential, growth potential , benefits..

    Cons

    Demanding workload, outdated tools,mismanaged inventory...

    Advice to Management

Invest in updated inventory and ordering system. DM and RVP walks draw a lot of resources, does not reflect an accurate picture of everyday store operations, hiring part time associates at lower wages gives you uninspired workers who are only there until they can find something better ...
