I worked at The Museum of Science and Industry (Chicago) full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Wonderful benefits and perks
Great environment to learn and experience first rate science and exhibits
The people there are some of the best you'll ever find in a work environment
A part of a large educational community

    Cons

Holidays and summers can be a little rough, it's still a tourist attraction
There can be a lot of red tape to get things done
Sometimes senior management may have a different view than what front line and middle management wants to achieve
Job security is questionable. There have been layoffs every couple of years consistently for more than ten years

    Advice to Management

Listen to your front line staff. They have great ideas and work directly with your intended audiences.
