I have been working at The Nerdery full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

- Rapidly growing company (also a con) generates lots of advancement opportunities
- Highly intelligent and passionate workforce
- Mostly interesting work and tons of opportunities to learn new things
- Fast paced and challenging projects
- Great perks (dedicated "Nerd Support" teams, catered lunchs, company happy hours, great events)
- People are genuine and the culture creates an environment that encourages helping others and empowering people to transcend their roles
- Management encourages work/life balance, even though its not always possible in the face of looming deadlines and tight budgets.

Cons

- Growth has resulted in several space management issues (dense layouts, constantly moving people around, separating groups, etc)
- Efficiency based business model causes many problems with resourcing and time management
- Company is still adapting to to managing a larger workforce. Mistakes are being made but I'm confident good intentions are there.
- Overall strategic direction of company is not clear. Company lost its greatest visionary in Luke Bucklin and Mike Derheim is not the same type of leader.
- If you are part of the production department, you are expected to bill 40 hours per week, which means you are probably working 45-50.

Advice to Management

This company has amazing potential. Be vigilante of it's core values and structure during times of extreme growth -- the people here are the most important aspect of the company and I feel that many senior people have been recently lost due to the chaos.

I have been working at The Nerdery full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Open-minded and intelligent group that is deeply devoted to employee happiness.

    Cons

As a development shop, work is often defined by client demand and is often unpredictable. IMO, The Nerdery compensates for this well with several perks, and a really fun group of people to work with.

I have been working at The Nerdery full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Voted top med-size work place last year, and I definitely agree
    - Weekly happy hours - Fridays at 4:30
    - Very open, respectful, and supportive culture
    - Really good about recognizing people
    - Filled with really smart people
    - Lots of career opportunities since it is growing extremely fast (doubling in size & revenue every year for past few years)

    Cons

    - You need to be 110% while you are at work
    - Very fast paced and can be stressful (so although you can work a typical 40 hour week, you might be thinking about it after you leave)
    - Developers & PMs need to keep their timesheet accurate to within 15 mins
    - Growing pains given the breakneck growth

    Advice to Management

    - Allow more time for people to improve themselves and their projects
    - More team-building activities
