I worked at The North Face full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

The benefits at North Face are extremely generous for a retail company. They offer time off, health care, and great discounts on their products. The company also has a fun-loving sporty culture that includes a constant focus on environmental sustainability and volunteerism.

Cons

The hours can be extremely long, the product is extremely popular which makes the job more stressful than other ones in retail. Reliance on performance based metrics leads to increased stress. Corporate from San Leandro will frequently come into the store with their friends and abuse their employee discount privileges. Company politics exists; pay is mediocre and upward movement is extremely difficult.

Advice to Management

Be more open to promoting from within. Nobody knows/can improve your product more than those who work in sales. Increase pay.

I have been working at The North Face full-time

    Pros

Nice people, leadership team that cares, beautiful campus and many nice benefits. Strong brand that employees are proud to represent.

    Cons

Internal culture and operations don't mirror brand image of innovation and adventure. Pay is not competitive for the Bay Area, poor systems, low resources for the volume of work, outdated and unhelpful support functions (HR, IT, Finance are not strategic and create roadblocks for the business) and there is a lack of positive culture.

    Advice to Management

Upgrade and modernize - systems, salaries, support functions.
