I have been working at The Shade Store full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The Shade Store has the most beautiful products and showrooms, great work environment, short turnaround times in production. Excellent company support from corporate, with direct access to members of all departments in real time. Team efforts are rewarded with monthly bonuses. Pay is above average.

    Cons

Less than desirable work-life balance. Weekends. Disconnect between design consultants to measure and installer pros to production to final outcome.

I have been working at The Shade Store full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-- Dynamic and entrepreneurial environment that encourages employees to think outside-the-box and find new ways to contribute. -- Founders who have an incredible knowledge of client needs and industry trends; they are involved on a daily basis and care about both the company's and employees' ongoing successes. -- Team members who are supportive and make an effort to be partners. -- A distinctive and innovative business model that is industry-leading. -- A focus on *results* and continuous improvement. -- The opportunity to build a career at a growing and forward-looking company. As an additional note: The company has approached the pandemic with a blend of concern for employees' health and welfare (without boasting about it) as well as the company's continued success. If you want to work in a dynamic, innovative, start-up and entrepreneurial environment where you can have an impact, this is the place for you.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at The Shade Store full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Above average pay & coworkers both in showrooms & Port Chester prior to COVID. Since the pandemic and insane increase in workload most employees are burnt out but prior to this I've enjoyed interacting with almost everyone at TSS.

    Cons

Where to even start, they have gutted entire departments and pushed the entire workload onto sales people. The workrooms are sending out more incorrect product than ever, expect 6 in 10 of the orders you put through to come in wrong or have some kind of issue and ZERO support in resolving the issues. They fired our most talented measuring pros and replaced them with 3rd party or quickly hired and failed to train in house staff, the result being constant issues with measurements and installations, not to mention a level of service that is nowhere close to matching the luxury aesthetic we sell. Operationally this place is a complete and utter disaster at the moment and everyone in the upper echelon is either pretending not to know to project confidence or they are dangerously removed from how the day to day business is going. I strongly resent the way they handled COVID from the outset. The messaging from the company as states and cities were shutting down was "Guys, we've got to stay open so the employees in the workroom can keep getting paid! If we aren't selling, they aren't making anything". Guilting your employees like that when all we are requesting is to put safety procedures in place or work remotely like we did very successfully later was honestly appalling. Not to mention those workrooms are owned by TSS, if you want them to get paid then pay them, furlough them so they can collect unemployment. Our M&I pros were forced to use PTO if they weren't comfortable going into a customers home, why wouldn't you furlough them and allow them to collect unemployment? Some benefits & pay were cut which is honestly very understandable, I wish with the paycut they had considered letting people complete a 4 day week so the pay was still in line with the time being put in but almost everything has been reinstated except our 401k match. Benefits are substandard & minimal, use to be 2 weeks of PTO (includes your sick time, there are some states that would give more sick time if we had no policy in place). You start with 3 weeks now which is still pretty low since it includes sick time but obviously an improvement.
