I worked at The UPS Store as a contractor (Less than a year)

Pros

The people that you meet and your coworkers both make the job worthwhile. The work environment is good and supportive when things get busy.

Cons

The pay is not as good as some may expect. It's just an average retail pay job. So if you put everything you have into it, you won't be paid as much as you should.

Advice to Management

Let the employees under you have more responsibility

I worked at The UPS Store full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The ability to impact the lives of Franchisees by assisting/coaching them in methodologies attuned to successful sales and operations strategies

    Cons

Top-down approach that stifles creativity. A lot of UPS alumni holding sway in levels of upper management, who are excellent operators within the paradigm of a global logistics company, but fail to understand the dynamics of a retail environment. Betrothed to business processes, but blind to the ever changing needs of a retail customer (includes Franchisees)

    Advice to Management

Bring in leaders who are adept in leading Franchise retail organizations. Devise strategies that are ahead of the curve. Adopting and pushing for print in the stores is commendable but you are already 5 years behind industry leaders such as FedEx Office and Staples Print Centers. Playing catch up is essentially futile considering that the Franchisees are not print experts and sometimes do not have the financial and technical wherewithal to commit to such a change, Instead, adopt a strategy that leads the pack, is low-investments and put your weight behind it with ad and marketing dollars.

    Pros

I really loved working there when i first started. It is fairly structured and layed back.

After two years and three owners I knew there was a problem.

    Advice to Management

Keep it in the family or hire young impressionable kids
