I worked at The United Illuminating Company as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

Field work is a nice break
Management is supportive
Internship comes with a $2500 scholarship

Cons

IT staff slow to respond to calls / tickets
Facebook and Twitter (and every proxy site known to man) are blocked really well
No smoking on company property (not even in your car) so you have to walk a quarter mile to smoke a butt

Advice to Management

Total overhaul in IT needed

    if you are in the wrong department you are treated like a child and even if you are a professional, salaried employee treated as though you are an hourly worker at mcdonalds

    I worked at The United Illuminating Company as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    This is a great place to work. I enjoyed my internship as a software engineer. The company has many programs for their interns and ample projects to challenge themselves.

    Cons

    The location is relatively remote, there are very few restaurants in walk able distance. In case you decide to go out for lunch, you do have to car pool are bring your own vehicle.

    Advice to Management

    Nothing, my experience with the management at United Illuminating was great. In fact the involved my in different situations to learn the business functions of the company.
