I worked at Thrillist Media Group full-time (More than a year)

Pros

The office is nice. The location is great. There is a party atmosphere. Some of the staff members are friendly and helpful. Everyone seems motivated.

Cons

The hours are awful. The management is awful. Newcomers are not welcome. Smug employees. There is no clear voice or direction. The higher-ups edit content, but have never been writers/editors anywhere else. The lack of real world experience shows. When the day is done, there is no feeling of accomplishment. The daily work could be finished in a few hours had the editing process been smoother. Everyone is in too many meetings to actually get things done. The party atmosphere is incredibly fake and forced.

Advice to Management

Trust your creative talent. Stop micromanaging.

I worked at Thrillist Media Group full-time

    Pros

Very young company with young employees who party and drink all the time. If you do not speak to anyone, it is possible to get far.

    Cons

Once something goes wrong, there is no way to redeem oneself, always a target on your back. People are very catty and only want promotions. Promotions based on time, not performance. Very top heavy in upper management, they say our voices are heard and recognized, but that is not the case. There is NO work life balance, hours are extremely long with no appreciation.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees and give at least some positive feedback, negative feedback was heard 99% of the time regardless of level of performance.

I have been working at Thrillist Media Group full-time

    Pros

If you like to get drunk all the time this is the place for you. The JackThreads part of the company is doing wonderful.

    Cons

    - Senior staff is seedy, unreliable, and the company itself is in an identity crisis. There is a huge lack of professionalism, promoting "favorites" v. talent. Overall low morale in certain departments. Never see anyone on the sales team with a smile on their face, and they're just plain rude.

    - They don't match your 401k

    - Barely ever any office supplies

    - Conference rooms are sparse, you're lucky to schedule one if someone doesn't steal it

    - Work/life balance is awful for those in entry-level roles. Don't expect to get much sleep, or even a thank you.

    Advice to Management

Realize the talents in their employees and acknowledge it.
