I have been working at TiVo full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

I didn't know why some of the people here say negative about this company like it is going down, out dated software, top management has no-focus etc. Probably they don't have complete picture of the company business or they got laid-off so out of frustration they are saying something rubbish.

Company has progressed so much in past several years. Some of the progresses are given below.

1) TiVo launched Multi-room solution with TiVo Mini and TiVo stream. And it also has both iOS and Andriod Apps to watch shows on your smart phone / tablets.

2) It launched TiVo Roamio which has been called as "Holy grail of set-top-boxes" and got highest positive reviews from end users.

3) TiVo experience is expanded to international markets. Virgin Media in UK launched 1.7 million TiVo boxes in market. ONO also launched thousands of TiVo boxes in Spain.

4) TiVo software now powered with IPTV capability. Com Hem is releasing TiVo boxes with both QAM and IPTV support in Sweden markets. TiVo is targeting many other international markets.

5) They have created a new VP position for innovation and on his direction TiVo prototyped first nPVR service. This is expected to launch soon.

6) TiVo is first DVR which is bringing "true" TV-Everywhere service by providing out of the home watching experience to end users on their phones/tablets with out any additional hardware support.

Being part of the company and if you are not aware of these advances then you are a blind person.

Cons

It used to have Bonuses. Now they removed.
For that size of the company, the salary paid to CEO is too much.

Advice to Management

No Advice. Keep doing what you have been doing and take the company to next level.

    no innovation
    no executive insight
    engineering management is a joke
    no career advancements
    silo'd teams

    Advice to Management

if TiVo does not innovate and change engineering management, TiVo will not make another 5 years

I have been working at TiVo full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

-- Somehow a number of the smart, hard-working, talented long-serving engineers that drive the company are still there.
-- Work-life balance (layoffs aside) is pretty good, benefits are fine.
-- Company capital and intellectual assets are solid, though not really profitable.

    Cons

-- A lot of the managers and engineers that had been driving ideas and positive change, for the past several years, have been laid off or left.
-- Developer tools, documentation, support, etc are all rough and outdated. Make sure you know how to setup your own Linux workstation, tools, etc, and be prepared to work harder to do work than on actual work.
-- If a few more top people go TiVo simply won't be able to get the next round of products out, which might be OK since there isn't a clear path forward anyways.
-- The company seems to get the it's technology is getting old, but it doesn't seem to have much of a plan for the future, nor does it seem to actually want an innovative culture that would spawn one.

    Advice to Management

TiVo had a chance to develop a strong culture and instead chose to use fear, red-tape, and self-delusion over the past 2 years. At this point it is time to accept failure sell the company, pay the stock-holders and try to learn from your mistakes.
