It's a large company which means there are a lot of policies and paperwork.

I have been working at Time Inc. full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Time provides good medical and dental benefits. They have Summer hours and give employees 4 weeks vacation a year.

    Cons

The company is so big that there is little to no innovation. Also, Time is behind the 8 ball with digital and they keep titles that are revenue drains like Coastal Living for example. Management consists of numbers reporting and paperwork (lots and lots of paperwork i.e., time spent doing reports is more than time spent selling). Sales Reps represent multiple titles yet each publisher expects their title to receive the most of your time and sale required per title. Most of the good sales people have left or have been let go. Also, watching what a former employee went through with HR was frightening. HR and Upper Management are very political and useless unless you are a minority.

    Advice to Management

Manage and support your staff and not manage "up" the chain.

  2. "Unscrupulous Management"

I worked at Time Inc. full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, open company culture, flexible work schedule, well-known brand name known for quality product (journalism), ability to move within the company both up and / or laterally.

    Cons

Unscrupulous management went pretty much unchecked for a good period of time, mostly due to bureaucracy, leading to poor decisions internally causing a lot of damage to departments and moral. Major layoffs during economic downturn. Lack of support in HR.

    Advice to Management

Have an "open door" policy when it comes to feedback about upper management.
