Pros

TMP is the parent company of an empire built by Todd McFarlane and his wife. The office environment is very casual and employees can wear comfortable clothing all year round. Larger departments such as accounting have good opportunities for growth. The headquarters is located in Tempe in a central location in an upscale office park. Employees have access to special toys and comics that may be hard to find at retail outlets, and discounts at the retail stores.

Cons

The company under previous management has made some very bad decisions in the last few years and the owners and upper management now have an us against them mentality with the staff. The easy go lucky environment where performance is rewarded is long gone. Raises are inconsistent and the company is trimming costs as fast as possible. It is now a very stressful place to work and micromanagement is rampant, with everyone pointing fingers at everyone else.

Advice to Management

The company needs some outside help to help it get back on track. Promoting from within is detrimental when the same people are shifted around to different departments and no one has an external perspective. Communication from the managers down to the staff is poor at best and needs improvement.

I worked at Todd McFarlane Productions full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Many long-time employees at TMP are super fun, creative and passionate people

    - A steady amount of free comics, toys and other employee freebies given away annually

    - TMP works with a large amount of popular entertainment properties which makes office life more interesting. (The Walking Dead, Five Nights at Freddy's, etc...)

    Cons

    - TMP leadership can be disjointed, often changing the company direction on a dime without proper long-term planning

    - Potential hires are more likely to be hired based on their ability to fit into the company culture rather than relevant experience or skills. (Which leads to poor on-site training and other issues)

    - Most of the TMP employees are underpaid/undervalued as they are encouraged to go above and beyond their job description in order to be "company men"

    Advice to Management

    - Pay employees what they are worth; especially if they are completing enough work for 3 people

    - Stop playing catch up to toy industry trends and start making them again

I worked at Todd McFarlane Productions full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Wear whatever you want. Management is nice. Coworkers are cool. Good
Licenses to work with and build your portfolio. Come and go with little pressure to work extra hours.

    Cons

No room to grow really. Lots of people in line for promotions who haven't received them and continue to work there, makes it tough. Some nepotism. Management can be nice but may have their hands tied as to what they can do to help you.
